I feel an urge to experience new things, to change what I see and change what I draw… Today I watched a short lecture by Stefan Sagmeister, called “The Power of Time Off”. He talks about the importance of taking a break from your work, to experiment freely, and to do so in a different environment than the one you’re used to. So true.
And also: you can now follow me on twitter and get updates about new posts, and maybe some links here and there (I promise it’s not going to be a chronicle of my daily actions).

On Saturday night we had a night out with friends, celebrating the visit of good good friend Tirza. She’s currently studying for her master’s in Helsinki, Finland. These portraits are based on some photos I took that night. The only guy missing is Roy because I didn’t get a descent picture of him (he’s very photogenic – totally my fault!). Drawing portraits of friends turned out to be pretty tricky: you want everyone to look good, but still make it interesting and not too sweet. Maybe the next post will be portraits of the girls women.

This is the illustration I worked on last week, for the Passover supplement of Ha’aretz newspaper. The article was very interesting – about the origins of the myth of the biblical Moses. The idea was to create a mishmash of images and symbols that represent the way all of the stories somehow came together, and the way different cultures and religions influence each other (or something like that :). Anyway, for those of you who celebrate Passover with their families tonight – have fun and take it easy.

I received a very special package today: an original drawing by Ron Rege, one of my favorite comics artists. I bought it to myself as an early birthday present. It’s so exciting to look so closely at the work of an artist you admire, to see the small pencil marks, the erased lines that are still engraved on the paper and the odd little stains.

This pose (the ear-press posture) looks pretty elegant in the pictures, but it always makes me giggle (quietly) thinking how funny it must look from the teacher’s point of view.

The last few days I felt so tired. The only thing that seemed to inject some energy into me was *LOUD* music, more specifically: repeated listens to Queens of the Stone Age (in the process I’ve developed an unhealthy crush on Josh Homme :). Here’s a link to my favorite song at the moment – it’s so good it hurts my stomach. The video is kind of stupid, but it’s worth watching just to see Dave Grohl on the drums.

One of the things I find interesting about amateur photography, is that because the composition isn’t heavily styled or considered, surprising things happen. When you flatten the image even more, while drawing it, new meaning can be found (or imagined?). I wonder what was the relationship between these two women like. This is also based on a picture from Oleg’s old family album (sorry for the bullshit text, I felt like sharing the thought process).
