Other than that, I’m working hard on an editorial illustration for a super-cool publication. I’m so stressed about it, so expect a slow posting rate for the next few days.
I’ve been working on a children’s book for Asia Publishing house, and it took me a long long time. Today I’m finally finishing the last illustration – so I thought it might me nice to show you the first illustration, kind of closing a circle. The book is supposed to be out next month, and then I will write more about the experience and the process of making it.
Two old objects, but new in my home: a painting of birds by and from my father, and a dresser from Yaakov the carpenter/recycler/artist.
Well, here’s the colored version of yesterday’s drawing. Don’t like it at all. Maybe I really should take a vacation from drawing for a while? Don’t know.
Today’s my 31st birthday. Oleg and me took the day off (a rare occasion) and spent it together. We walked the streets, bought me presents (nice!) and laughed a lot. These are the flowers he gave me. They are so beautiful, this dreary drawing doesn’t do them justice - maybe I’ll try to add some color. It was a happy day that deserves a colorful post.
This is a very old work, from my Bezalel final project, four years ago (!). It suits my Saturday lazy mood. What can be nicer than sleeping lightly, like a cat, listening to the birds chirping like crazy in the spring air?
Just fooling around… I think I may need a blogging break for a few days, but I’m not even sure I can anymore – it’s (almost) all I ever think about.
On her last visit, Tirza gave Oleg and me a small pile of old portraits she found in Helsinki. This one is printed on a postcard from 1923. It looks like it was written in a hurry.
Israel’s independence day was celebrated yesterday. Like every year, the newspapers publish special supplements, trying to attack the subject from a new angle. I was asked to illustrate, for ‘The Marker Magazine’, six short texts about the things people miss in “the good old days”. I think what people miss most is the sense of community and the modest life style.
