My Child Leading the Way

Sunday, August 19th, 2012

I’m so in the dark with this new style. I’m not sure if it’s super-ugly or not. I’ll keep on trying though, there must be a way to work these patterns into my own esthetic.

Pattern Searching is Soul Searching

Continuing to explore the pattern concept from two posts ago.

Other than that, today was a pretty sad day. I hate it when good friends have a hard time.

Gond Art

Monday, August 13th, 2012

The Gond tribe in India has a traditional art form based on patterns.

Gondi artists fill the surface of images with patterns they develop, mostly inspired by nature.

For example, a pattern that looks like this: <<<< may be based on the steps of a bird, a row of spiders walking by or the shape of a cat’s nose.

Each artist has a personal pattern they develop ,which in time becomes their signature.

See some examples here, and read more about specific artists here.

I find this very inspiring and this is my first shot at it. Not so good, but you know first tries.

My patterns were inspired by the package of one of the medicines I’m taking at the moment:

If you had to create a pattern that represented you as an artist, would it be like the footsteps of a mouse? Or the shape raindrops make as they hit the ground?

I’m going to explore more of this tomorrow. Good Night!
