Young Writers Illustration

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

I did this small illustration a while back, for the June/July issue of NYLON magazine.

It was for an item about a new book collecting the works of thirty young + promising writers. Actually, the book cover is really cute (below left), they could have just used that, no?

(not a smart business move on my part writing that, I know :)

Almost too warm to look at, no? Weird.

Problem Is…

Endless Knot

This evening we’re going to protest against the high housing costs in Israel.

This image seems fit, although it was done with another battle in mind (made recently for A5 Magazine, the Jerusalem issue).

A Birthday Post

Monday, April 25th, 2011

This jacket is a traditional Ukrainian costume made from natural sheep wool. And it’s very very warm… Oleg’s parents gave it to me for my birthday. I’m 32 today, how weird!

This birthday I feel just how much I carry with me old complications. Very old ones.
In many ways I’m still a teenager. It’s kind of ridiculous.

Anyway… As a gift to myself I’ll play one of the most listened to songs on my i-tunes: Coney Island Baby by Lou Reed (loud volume recommended even-though it’s a slow one).

PS. I love how this blog is starting to have a history. This is last year’s birthday post.

Couple Of Drawings

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Shelly and Elon Satat-Kombor, the talented shoe designers behind Couple Of, asked me to draw the shoes from their 2011 summer collection. What a treat!

The collection’s theme is “Urban Jungle”, inspired by wild animals (a parrot, a zebra, a fish!). I obviously took it in a more homely direction, thinking about the porches of Tel-Aviv.

It was a pleasure to draw because the shapes of the shoes are so interesting, and Shelly and Elon were the best clients, letting me do whatever I felt like. An illustrator’s dream…

Lovely Day

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Listened repeatedly to Stevie Wonder today. Here’s You Are the Sunshine of My Life, the opening track from his 1972 album Talking Book. Stevie’s music always make me so happy and content, and it has to be saved for especially good days, when the air smells like flowers.

Feeling uninspired just when it’s really REALLY important to be inspired. Arrr…
