The World is Medium Sized

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Started reading Michel Houellebecq’s collection of stories and articles, Lanzarote.

The book opens with these words: ‘The world is medium-sized’.

Then you flip the page and it begins.

Iggy Pop liked Houellebecq’s writing so much he dedicated an entire album to his book The Possibility of an Island. This is Iggy’s version of Jobim’s How Insensitive from that album:

Karamanlis, or Something Like That

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

In “Which Moped with Chrome-plated Handlebars at the Back of the Yard?”, Georges Perec writes about a soldier named Karamanlis, 0r something like that (the author himself is not quite sure), who is trying to get out of the army, with the help of his friends back in Paris.

His name may be uncertain, but the way he dresses is described really well. You can understand this character just by reading about the clothes he wears. I couldn’t resist the temptation to draw him, although now I think he should be taller and his hair neater…

No Time Today

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Today was dedicated to house cleaning, so I didn’t have the time to draw especially for the blog. It’s frustrating, because I had at least two good ideas for drawings for today. Instead, this is a spread from an old green sketchbook. Have a lovely weekend!
