NYLON-ing

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Today I got my copies of the July issue of NYLON magazine, which is ‘the music issue’.
It looks really great, but I’m too excited to read it right now, because my illustration is in it.
I kind of hate how it turned out, but I try to understand I’m not objective right now, with my strange, dark mood.
A
nyway, this is the illustration:

I did another version in ink, because I wasn’t sure the pencil is strong enough:

But the guys at NYLON preferred the pencil version. Here is the actual spread:

If I Can Make it There…

Last week I worked on an illustration for New York based NYLON magazine. It’s for an article about women musicians, and one of the artists I drew is Cat Power, who I adore.

So I thought this would be a good opportunity to tie the whole thing together by uploading this portrait of her and also her heart-wrenching version of Sinatra’s New York.

A Magazine Curated By…

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

This is a very special magazine, where every issue is curated by another fashion designer, from start to end. Previous issues were edited by Maison Martin Margiela, Riccardo Tisci and Yohji Yamamoto, to name a few. It’s really something different: whimsical, experimental and over all much more interesting than your average ‘art meets fashion’ magazine (except for the obligatory Terry Richardson shoot). I got the issue curated by Jun Takahashi, a Japanese fashion designer. You can view the entire issue here or watch it flipped here.

Joy, passion, intoxication

I’m currently reading (again, otherwise it doesn’t stick to my brain) Flaubert’s ‘Madame Bovary’. When I leaf through French Vogue I turn into a little Emma, fantasizing about lounging lazily in a dark blue Lanvin dress, drinking champagne in my fabulous Paris apartment. Actually lounging lazily in my Tel Aviv apartment, leafing through French Vogue isn’t that bad either. Another Bovary inspired piece coming soon.

Fashion Illustration Galore

A while ago I bought this magazine ‘Fashion Tale’. It’s a fashion magazine, but fully illustrated, no use of photography at all! I adore the courage to do something so unorthodox. There’s an online version of it here (unfortunately it’s a very edited version), but anyway I’m posting some of the ones I liked best:

Top to bottom: Fredrik Tjernstro, Annelie Carlstrom, Graham Samuels
