Just got my hands on the new issue of Odyssey magazine, which cover I illustrated.
This issue’s subject is The Pursuit of Happiness - a very interesting subject indeed!
While working on this commission I listened to all of The Smiths albums, in order to get in the appropriate energetic mood (although I had to pay for my fun later that night, trying to fall asleep while at least three Smiths songs play in my head non-stop and all at once).
Ahh… the perils of being an illustrator.
PS. On the top right corner of the image above you can see the sketchbook spread the cover was based on (or as posted here on February)
Been dreaming lately about a house in the middle of the deep sea, about rooms that turn into caves, about bad construction issues. Meaning – too obvious to be written.
The soundtrack is Radiohead – Weird Fishes /Arpeggi:
This weekend I’m listening to my old Nick Cave CD’s. He was my musical hero in high school (I wore nothing but black for at least 3 years – what can I say, I’m a walking cliche).
Haven’t listened to his music in years and years, but I happily discovered it still sounds amazing, and now that I’m older and smarter I even appreciate the lyrics better.
Here’s the title song from The Good Son, reminds me of fall, of walking slowly to school…
Another important demonstration tomorrow. Nothing like a Pulp song to get the energy flowing. And the lyrics fit perfectly, although they were written about something else.
This jacket is a traditional Ukrainian costume made from natural sheep wool. And it’s very very warm… Oleg’s parents gave it to me for my birthday. I’m 32 today, how weird!
This birthday I feel just how much I carry with me old complications. Very old ones.
In many ways I’m still a teenager. It’s kind of ridiculous.
Anyway… As a gift to myself I’ll play one of the most listened to songs on my i-tunes: Coney Island Baby by Lou Reed (loud volume recommended even-though it’s a slow one).
PS. I love how this blog is starting to have a history. This is last year’s birthday post.
Been reading Günter Grass’ The Tin Can. I read it very slowly to make it last longer.
I Wanted to dedicate an illustration to the book ↑, but more than anything, the outcome reminds me of The White Stripes (I’ve been brainwashed by cool band graphics).
This ↓ is the first White Stripes song I loved, The Union Forever (it was burned on a legendary mix-CD given to me by a guy I really wanted but really couldn’t get).
My name is Keren Taggar, an illustrator from Tel Aviv, Israel. This is sort of a sketchbook blog, a place for me to publish things I have nowhere else to show, and also a daily drawn diary.
